STLCC Receives Education Award from ACCESS Center
February 09, 2009
St. Louis Community College has been named the recipient of the 2009 Education Institution of the Year Award from the Association for Construction Careers, Education and Support Services (ACCESS) Center.
The award will be presented at the center’s 2009 Black History Month Forum Feb. 26 at STLCC’s Forest Park campus.
The ACCESS Center is sponsored by many of the organizations that are members of the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers, whose mission is to provide leadership to improve value, quality and safety in the efficient delivery of capital facilities and maintenance by the St. Louis design and construction industry. The award recognizes the college’s participation in several of the ACCESS Center events, including community forums, construction career nights and the Black History Month celebration.
"The ACCESS Center is grateful to have St. Louis Community College as a key contributor to the success of the center," said Glenn Harris, center director. "The college’s support has allowed hundreds of people to learn about rewarding careers in the construction industry."
The ACCESS Center uses data collection, policy analysis and advocacy to engage in agenda setting and oversees activities that monitor, measure and improve the region’s performance regarding minority workforce and business development. The center also supports the construction industry by developing diversity development programs initiated by labor, owners, contractors and community-based organizations.
