Dennis Jenkerson, a third-generation St. Louis firefighter, was named chief of the St. Louis Fire Department last November. Jenkerson earned his associate degree in fire engineering from St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, and a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and development from Saint Louis University. He also has completed coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Missouri Southern State College. Jenkerson has ascended the ranks from firefighter to chief during his 28 years of service. He has served as incident commander for major city events such as the World Series in 2004 and 2006, the 2005 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, and several full-scale exercises under the Department of Homeland Security. Jenkerson has collaborated on research publications presented at the American Industrial Hygiene conferences in Dallas and Chicago.
