The St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Anisha Morrell-Charles, coordinator of recruitment and student support at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, as special assistant to Chancellor Zelema Harris.

Morrell-Charles, who joined the STLCC-Meramec staff in 2002, will assume her new role on July 1. She will assist the chancellor in working with leaders in business and industry and in educational agencies to identify opportunities for the college to broaden the reach of its programs and services, especially for underserved markets. Morrell-Charles also will assist the chancellor in working with the corporate community, community-based organizations, educational affiliates, and state educational organizations and councils.

Morrell-Charles was appointed by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay in 2007 to serve on the St. Louis Airport Commission. Her term ends in November 2010. The Airport Commission is responsible for planning, development, management and operation of Lambert St. Louis Airport.

Active in the community, Morrell-Charles serves as vice president of administration for the National Black MBA Association’s St. Louis chapter, is an executive board member of the Hispanic Chamber of Metropolitan St. Louis and an immediate past board member of the Hispanic Leaders Group of St. Louis. She recently was named a founding co-chair for the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Young Leaders Society, and has served as education market team captain for the United Way’s Charmaine Chapman Society and The Women’s Leadership Giving Initiative. She also is a member of FOCUS St. Louis’s New Americans Implementation Team and St. Alphonsus "Rock" Church.

Morrell-Charles earned master’s degrees in business administration and corporate communications from Lindenwood University. Her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies is from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She and her husband, Mario, live in St. Louis City.
