Members of the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees June 19 unanimously selected Robert Nelson of Kirkwood to serve his third one-year term as board chair, through the regular board meeting in June 2009.

Nelson, a retired associate professor of physical education and basketball coach at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, is the Subdistrict 4 representative on the college’s board. Subdistrict 4 consists of the Rockwood, Parkway, Valley Park, Kirkwood, Lindbergh, Mehlville and Meramec Valley school districts and small portions of Franklin and Jefferson counties. He was elected to the board in April 2004.


Joann Ordinachev

Trustees also unanimously elected Joann L. Ordinachev, Ph.D., to serve a one-year term as board vice chair. Ordinachev, a retired counselor from North County Technical School of the Special School District, was elected to an unprecedented third term as trustee of Subdistrict 3 in April 2007. Subdistrict 3 includes the southern and southwest portions of St. Louis City and the school districts of Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Affton, Bayless, Hancock, Brentwood and Webster Groves.

In addition to Nelson and Ordinachev, other trustees are Denise Chachere, Libby Fitzgerald, Melissa Hattman and Margo McNeil. They represent the four subdistricts of the college service area and are elected periodically by district voters for staggered six-year terms. Trustees are responsible for determining college policy within the legal framework established by the statutes of the state of Missouri, and makes all final decisions concerning employment, termination of services, expenditures of funds, contracts, establishment of new programs, student fees, tax levies and facilities construction. Monthly meetings are open to the public.
