Hattman, Fitzgerald Elected to STLCC Board of Trustees

Two candidates with extensive higher education experience were elected to six-year terms on the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees on
April 8.

Melissa Hattman, director of transfer and articulation at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, will represent Subdistrict 1 while Eleftheria "Libby" Fitzgerald, retired associate professor in counseling at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, will represent Subdistrict 4. They will take the oath of office at the April 28 Board of Trustees meeting at the college’s Meramec campus.

"On behalf of the board, I am pleased to welcome Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Hattman to the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees," said Robert Nelson, board chair. "We look forward to the board continuing to work with our chancellor to move the college forward."

Hattman defeated Theodis Brown Sr., Arnie C. Dienoff and King Taylor Jr. in the Subdistrict 1 race. The certified vote was 9,688 for Hattman; 4,637 for Brown, Castlepoint fire chief; 2,968 for Dienoff, a property manager and business consultant; and 2,792 for Taylor, a teacher in the Normandy School District.

Subdistrict 1 includes the Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant, Riverview Gardens, Jennings, Pattonville, Ritenour, Normandy, Wellston, University City, Clayton and Ladue school districts.

Fitzgerald defeated Philip D. Carlock and Y. Ross Kleinschmidt in the Subdistrict 4 race. The certified vote was 21,450 for Fitzgerald; 7,192 for Carlock, retired dean of learning resources at Southwestern Illinois College; and 6,334 for Kleinschmidt, an agent with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Subdistrict 4 includes the Parkway, Kirkwood, Lindbergh, Mehlville, Rockwood, Valley Park and Meramec Valley school districts and portions of Franklin and Jefferson counties.
