STLCC Offers Study Abroad Program to Macedonia

April 14, 2008

St. Louis Community College is offering a three-week study abroad program in the Republic of Macedonia.

The archaeology program in Macedonia will be June 28-July 18. Participants will work side-by-side with Kiro Ristov (Skopje Museum) and approximately a dozen archaeology students from universities in the Republic of Macedonia, and learn about the archaeology and history of the country. Highlights of previous trip can be seen at http://users.stlcc.edu/mfuller/macedonia/.

The estimated cost of $1,500 per person includes accommodations in Skopje, daily breakfast and dinner, study-field excursions, use of American Corner in Skopje, interaction with Macedonian archaeologists and limited international health insurance. Students are responsible for booking and purchasing their own airline tickets. It is the student’s responsibility to be at Hotel Vodno in Skopje on June 28. Students may use frequent flyer miles.

All participants must enroll in ANT104: Field Methods in Archaeology, which may be taken for credit or audited. The fee for this course is not included in the estimated cost. STLCC maintenance fees (tuition) are $78 per credit hour for district residents, $103 for other Missouri residents and $138 for out-of-state residents.

The tour leader is Michael Fuller, professor in anthropology at STLCC-Meramec, whose fieldwork experiences include work in Egypt, Jordan, Greece, Syria, the United States and the Republic of Macedonia.
