March 13, 2008

Teneshia Peart, a freshman at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley, captured two individual championships to pace the women’s team to a seventh-place finish at the recent National Junior College Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships in Charleston, Ill.

Peart won the 60- and 200-meter dashes (7.41 and 24.35 seconds respectively) to set school records. She also anchored the women’s school record-setting 4x400m relay (3:54.61) that finished third. Other relay team members were Tanieka Evans, Kristin McCoy and Bionca Gildon. Gildon also finished fifth in the 400-meter run and seventh in the 200-meter dash.

Ashley Zanders finished third in the triple jump with an effort of 38 feet.

Peart, Evans, McCoy, Gildon and Zanders earned All-American recognition for their efforts.

Brittney Monroe placed eighth in the long jump with a school-record leap of 18-2 feet, just ahead of teammate Zanders, who finished ninth at 17-11.5 feet.

The top individual finish among the men was Jordan Maxwell, who placed eighth in the triple jump.

Others who competed in the championships were Courtney Jones (60m, 200m), Ysatis Williams (400m), Jhanell Brown (60m), Tyrone Hawkins (200m, 400m), Blake Austin (mile run) and Stevie Dotson (shot put).
