St. Louis Community College at Meramec Theatre

Established in 1972, the Meramec Theatre has been dedicated to training theatre artists and serving the community.  Meramec Theatre's legacy includes John Goodman beginning his career and director Gary Paben, who went on to become the senior show Director of the Walt Disney Company at Walt Disney works. The Second City touring company, Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa, Trio Globo, and Erin Bode all have graced our stage, along with The Blanks (Ted's Band from the TV show, Scrubs) and Robert Faust of the Faustwork Mask Theatre.  Productions as popular as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Waiting for Godot have been produced, along with controversial works such as Tracy Letts' Bug and Closet Land by Radha Bharadwaj, to enthusiastic regional and national praise.

In 2001, the Meramec Theatre was recognized as the only two-year institution to represent theatre at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and only one of three community colleges in the nation to receive such an honor since 1969. Since that time, the faculty, students and staff have been awarded regional and national honors in directing, play writing, scenic design, lighting design, and projection design. Our commitment to excellence and professionalism in theatre continues to remain paramount to our program.

“Meramec has consistent high-quality productions that give students an outstanding opportunity to learn about theatre. The overall excellence is something of which the institution should be proud.”
