Brian Smugala enters his fifth season as head men's soccer coach following a 11-8 record in 2008, and a four-year mark of 57-19-4

A St. Mary's graduate, Smugala began his collegiate career at Forest Park playing for Jim Bokern. An All-Region XVI player, Smugala helped his team finish second in the 1983 NJCAA Tournament. Smugala then transferred to Avila University and started for two years. The 1985 squad was ranked second in the NAIA. He received his bachelor's degree in communications.

For the past eight years, Smugala has worked with the St. Louis Soccer Club. He was named coaching director for the boys. He also served as the Magic assistant coach for three seasons, from 2002-04. The Magic have had three strong seasons under his leadership. They went undefeated (10-0) to win the MCCAC Conference title in 2006, and Smugala was voted Coach of the Year.  He has coached one NJCAA Academic All-American, one Distinguished Academic All-American and one NJCAA All-American. In 2009 Brain was named Director of Coaching for the St. Louis Ajax Soccer Club.
