Ron Mirikitani
Ron Mirikitani enters his 39th year at Meramec ranked first nationally among NJCAA coaches with 447 victories. He has led the Magic to the NJCAA Wrestling Championships 28 times including a eight place finish in 2007, ninth place finish in 1990,2003 and 1997, a tenth place finish in 1996, a seventh place finish in 1994, and a 2nd place finish in 2008. He was named NJCAA Coach of the Year in 2008. He led the Magic to 28 consecutive winning seasons. He has served the past eighteen years as the President of the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association. He is member of the Board of Directors for USA Wrestling and is president elect of the National Wrestling Coaches Association. In 2003 he and his wife were given the Meritorious Service Award. Mirikitani was inducted into the NJCAA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1987. In addition, Mirikitani was honored by his peers by being named the NJCAA Man of the Year in 1991. Mirikitani was also inducted in the Meramec Magic Hall of Fame in 1998. 2005 saw Ron inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. USA Wrestling in Missouri inducted Ron into their Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2007 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Along with his duties at Meramec, Mirikitani is very active at the international level with NJCAA wrestlers. A total of 23 Meramec wrestlers have represented the United States on either the Junior Pan American team or the Junior College National team. Fifty six youngsters have been named NJCAA All Americans. In addition to his coaching duties, Mirikitani is a Professor of Physical Education at Meramec. He holds a B.S. from Central Missouri State University and an M.S. from Iowa State University. Mirikitani is responsible for teaching the martial arts classes that include judo, karate, and personal defense. |
