While head softball coach Linda McQueen was recently named to the position in early December, it's one she has been familiar with for decades. McQueen was a star player for Meramec and former coach Celeste Knierim in the late 1970's.

"I'm pretty excited about the opportunity," said McQueen. "I want the game to be fun and enjoyable and to go back to the success we had in the past."

In 1978, the team was the national runner-up and McQueen was an All-Tournament team honoree, thanks to her .455 nationals tourney batting average.

Since then, the softball success has continued. McQueen has been the varsity coach at Lutheran South High School for many years, leading that squad to much success and several state final four appearances. Her 2002 squad won it all.

More recently, she was assistant coach at Meramec under Knierim in 2004, when the Magic again finished as national runner-up. In April, 2007, McQueen was inducted into the Magic Hall Of Fame.
