Janell Franken came to the program in the 11th hour and gave the program some stability at a difficult time. Although the team did not do as well as desired in the victory column, there is a solid base for Franken to build upon for 2009. The returning group of players will be led by second-team All-Region XVI player Meghan O'Sullivan. Carista Coleman (second) and Nikki Torno (first) also earned All-Region XVI honors. Torno is a strong candidate to become a two-time NJCAA Academic All-American. 

Franken was a four-year varsity player at Tipton High School, winning all-conference and all-district honors her last three years. She was named team captain her last two years. She continued her career at Central Methodist, and served as team captain her senior year. She earned her degree in biology and works as a field supervisor for the St. Louis County Health Department. 

For two years before joining the Magic, Franken served as head coach at Francis Howell High School, and also coached the Mid-Missouri and St. Charles Stars select teams.
