Country Studies
This series presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. Most of the studies include a bibliography. You can select from a list of countries or from a clickable world map.
Country Profiles
Briefer than the country studies, these profiles of 50 foreign nations offer a summary of each country’s history, government and politics, geography, transportation and communication, society, and economy. Besides being current they are updated annually or as developments dictate.
Near East Collections
From this site, an Illustrated Guide to the Near East, you can choose such topics as The Middle East and Religion, The Arab World, The Iranian World, and Turkey. Illustrations are of pages of books in the LOC collections.
Portals to the World
Internet resources selected by Library of Congress subject experts. For each country on this list, there is a categorized list of links to Internet resources ranging from general information about the country to specific areas of interest, such as economics, history, education, language and literature, recreation and travel, and more. The links are from a wide variety of sources, including U.S. government, non-profits, NGOs, universities, and the local government.

On this site the Middle East is defined as broadly as possible.
Middle East Network Information Center
From The University of Texas at Austin. This site is a virtual library of links and the "largest and most comprehensive directory of on-line resources about the Middle East available on the Internet". Besides subject categories such as Arts & Humanities, Education, Business & Economy, Health & Science, there are also links to each country in the Middle East.
Middle East and Islamic Studies Department
From Columbia University Libraries. Links include bibliographies, news sources, resources by region, by country and by subject; various directories, such as yellow pages, and other resources. Especially noteworthy is their link to Images and Graphics on the Middle East, organized by country and region.
Middle East Conflicts
From the Documents Center at The University of Michigan, this site is maintained by Raymond Tanter, professor of Political Science. It is a compendium of a vast variety of resources on all aspects of Middle East conflicts including the Arab-Israeli wars to the Iraq wars. It includes links to primary documents as well as country information.

Human Rights Watch - Middle East/North Africa
Information is organized by country and by issue. Human Rights Watch is an independent, nongovernmental organization based in the U.S. It accepts no government funds, directly or indirectly. Their researchers conduct investigations into human rights abuses in all over the world. Those findings are then published in books and reports every year, generating extensive coverage in local and international media.
