Mission-Based Assessment Committees
The college’s previous assessment approach successfully employed the Five Column Assessment Model developed by Dr. Jim Nichols. This model helped assessment units identify goals, outcomes, means of assessment and results of assessment, as well as record how assessment results were being used.
Building on our success with the Five Column Model, each mission-based committee uses a similar approach to develop an assessment plan that best suits the needs of that academic or service area.
The Charge
The charge for the mission-based assessment committees is to:
1. Define the specific learning outcome(s) or institutional effectiveness indicator(s) to be assessed.
2. Identify the means of assessment and data sources.
3. Interpret and share the results of assessment.
4. As needed, help develop strategies for improving student learning and/or institutional effectiveness.
5. Record how assessment data are being used to help improve student learning and/or institutional effectiveness.
