Fun Club

The School Age Childcare program is known as the Fun Club. While in the laboratory setting for the childcare curriculum, it provides an on-site teaching opportunity for all of the student teachers interested in school-age care. The program provides transportation to and from field activities and serves 30 children in grades kindergarten though six, from five local parochial and public schools.

The program is facilitated by two teachers with degrees in early childhood education and more than 30 years combined experience in the early childhood field. It is located in a self-contained classroom in the CDC.

The program opened with a childcare and development block grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. It has been licensed by the state of Missouri as a component of the CDC and accredited through Missouri Voluntary Accreditation just four months after it began. It received another block grant to expand the playground and library areas during its second year of operation.

Because the program is located in the laboratory school, the fees are kept low through subsidization by the college to the operational funds for the CDC. The school age summer program provides an eight-week summer program.

The program has a licensed capacity of 32 children. During the summer months, we offer an eight-week program. There are four staff personnel during the summer.

The program has its own large playground as well as a patio area outside of the immediate classroom. The fenced playground is well stocked with sports equipment and supplies.
