The Arts at Forest Park
The Mildred E. Bastian Center for the Performing Arts is committed to serving its audience by providing quality college-community performances in music and theatre. The Forest Park Communications department offers students a creative applied education in theatre, with introductory and acting classes, and in music, with courses in basic music, music theory, history, music technology fundamentals, music enjoyment, survey of rock music, chorus, piano, guitar, drum, voice, music recording with pro tools, and others.
Four theatrical productions are presented annually, with the annual One Act Play Festival kicking things off in the fall, featuring participation from local colleges and universities. Three full-length plays are produced -- usually in November, February and April – with cast members coming from the student body and general public.
Music performances include student solo recitals and ensemble concerts, World Music Concert Series, City Arts Festival offerings, professional artists, and the work of Dr. Thomas Zirkle, assistant professor of music.
Admission is free of charge for all fine arts offerings, except when fees are noted for an outside group, but students are allowed admission with ID.
For performance information, call the theatre manager at 314-644-9386. For class information, call the Communications Department at 314-644-9381.
