Athletics

Forest Park offers intercollegiate competition in soccer, basketball, baseball and softball for both men and women. Forest Park is committed to providing quality opportunities in athletics that enhance the student's educational experience.

St. Louis Community College athletic teams compete as members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Athletics department offers scholarship opportunities for men and women to participate in six different intercollegiate sports. Students interested in eligibility requirements should contact the respective head coach or the Athletics department secretary.

Lady Highlanders Claim First Region XVI Championship


The Forest Park Lady Highlanders soccer team, under direction of first-year head coach Juergen Huettner, captured the first regional championship in the program’s history by defeating MCC-Maple Woods by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Two second half goals by freshman Carrie Stone and Carrie Buckley provided the offense, while sophomore goalkeeper Sheilah Self recorded her six the shutout. The Lady Highlanders, ranked fourth out of five teams in the tournament did not allow a goal in regional play beating #5 Blue River 3-0, #1 Meramec 1-0 and #3 Maple Woods 2-0. The Highlanders have now won their last six games. Their last lost came October 9, at Maple Woods, the team they defeated for the regional crown. Their record now stands at 10-10-1 on the season.

Huettner was named Region XVI Coach of the Year. Five players also receive regional honors. Stone, who scored three of the five regional goals, was named to the All-Region First Team and was also the region’s Co-Player of the Year. Self joined Stone on the first team while sophomores Danielle Schuler, Nika Ponder and freshman Rachel Gay all were named to the All-Region Second Team.

Lady Highlanders Advance to Regional Championship Game


The Forest Park Lady Highlanders will be playing for the Region XVI championship Sunday Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. against MCC-Maplewoods. The Lady Highlanders were victorious over STLCC-Meramec by the score of 1-0 to advance to the finals. Co-All-Region Player of the Year Carrie Stone sent home a penalty kick midway through the second half to put the Lady HIghlanders up for good. Sheilah Self recorded her fifth shutout of the season. You can listen to the semi-final game replay online. 

 

Seven Highlander Soccer Players Named to All-Conference Teams.

The MCCAC has recognized student athletes from both the men's and women's soccer teams as All-Conference performers for the 2009. Five Lady Highlanders were named, while two men's players also received honors. The results are as follows....
