Forest Park offers intercollegiate competition in soccer, basketball, baseball and softball for both men and women. Forest Park is committed to providing quality opportunities in athletics that enhance the student's educational experience.
St. Louis Community College athletic teams compete as members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Athletics department offers scholarship opportunities for men and women to participate in six different intercollegiate sports. Students interested in eligibility requirements should contact the respective head coach or the Athletics department secretary.
Athletes Lend Helping Hand
The Athletics department at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park has been lending a helping hand to Habitat for Humanity St. Louis this fall. Currently, Habitat for Humanity St. Louis is building 27 new homes in the JeffVanderLou (JVL) neighborhood located at the intersection of Webster and Sheridan. "We are pleased to make Habitat for Humanity an athletic department project," said Michael Moore, athletic director. "It allows our student/athletes to donate their time and energy, and make a significant contribution to our community."

Several of the Highlanders' intercollegiate athletic teams recently volunteered at the JVL build site. The men's basketball team was the first team to volunteer on a landscaping project. "This is a life lesson the team will never forget," said Coach Preston Thomas. "The team and coaching staff found this to be a fun experience and are thankful they are able to donate their time to worthy cause."
The Lady Highlander basketball and softball teams followed suit with a work day. Players were assigned projects such as painting doors and trim, and building and adding flowers beds. The ladies were able to work side by side with the homeowner and got to hear some her wonderful life experience.

"The homeowners are so appreciative for all of the volunteers, and it was a heartwarming experience," said Ken Williams, head softball coach. "The team did a great job working together and tackling new obstacles. We had a great time helping a beautiful community grow."
Highlander baseball players stepped up to the plate to work on a roofing and brick laying project. Casey Jones, starting infielder, captures the spirit of goodwill that permeates the athletic department. "Anything we can do to help out the needy is cool," said Jones. "We're trying to do our part to help our community."
Highlander pitching coach Alfredo Baez added: "It was an unforgettable experience helping build a home for wonderful family. It taught us a sense of pride, unity and selflessness. We learned how to collaborate and get together for a common cause."
The men's and women's soccer teams will wrap up the Highlanders' community service project Nov. 22.
