This course surveys the political, economic, cultural, military, and social forces that have shaped the United States relationship with the Middle East. The course examines American involvement in the Middle East and its impact on domestic politics in the US; how US foreign policy toward the Middle East evolved over time; and the role the United States has played in shaping the political history of the Arab-Islamic world. Prerequisite: Reading Proficiency.
