This course is a survey of American history from the European discovery of the Americas through the American Civil War. It explores the cultural, economic, political and social forces which have shaped the nation during that period. As an honors course it emphasizes small-group interaction in a seminar setting. Credit not allowed for this course if credit is given for HST:100. Prerequisites: Department Approval and Reading Proficiency.
