In American Sign Language (ASL) I , Deaf instructors whose native language is ASL provide intensive exposure to basic ASL, expressively and receptively. The “voice off” policy in class creates a total immersion learning environment. Topics include: basic fingerspelling; cardinal numbers 1-66; statements, yes-no questions, wh-questions, and commands; personal activities; describing shapes and people; giving directions; spatial agreement; modifying verbs; Deaf communication cultural norms; biographies and accomplishments of Deaf individuals.
