The Office of Continuing Education, St. Louis Community College-Meramec offers the Adult Education and Literacy program funded by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Adult Education and Literacy program will not be accepting new students during the month of June.
This program has two main facets:
The first, Adult Basic Education, offers preparation to take the Missouri Test of High School Equivalence and remedial work in subjects such as mathematics, reading and writing skills.
The second, English as a Second Language, is designed to improve the English language skills of recent immigrants to the United States or other non-native speakers.
Classes are free. Students must be 16 year of age or older. 16 and 17 year olds are required to bring a letter signed by the principal or superintendent of the school they last attended indicating they are no longer enrolled and granting permission to attend Adult Education and Literacy classes.
Effective August 28, 2009, Missouri law requires that 16 year olds seeking admission to an AEL class verify completion of 16 units of high school credit. An official transcript indicating completion of 16 units of high school credit must be furnished at enrollment.
