Myrtle E. B. Dorsey, Ph.D., has served as chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College since 2002.

Under her leadership, BRCC obtained candidacy, accreditation and reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering, the Gulf Coast Process Technology Alliance and the Center for the Advancement of Process Technology.  

During her tenure, BRCC also secured certification to award federal financial aid and completed a $73.3 million construction project.  

Dorsey currently serves as chair-elect of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors, and will serve as chair beginning July 1. She also is a member of the American Council on Education’s Office of Women in Higher Education Executive Board for the State Networks. She also serves on the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is a member of the Baton Rouge General Hospital Board of Trustees. She is a member of the Baton Rouge Film Commission and the Baton Rouge Literacy Coalition. 

Honors Dorsey has received include the Baton Rouge Brotherhood Sisterhood Award, the NAACP Freedom Fund Community Service Award, and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development’s Master Teacher Award. She was named one of the Baton Rouge Business Report's Most Influential Women. Dorsey represented the American Association of Community Colleges at the first White House Summit on Community Colleges in October 2010. 

Dorsey earned her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Morgan State University.
