After an extensive national search, involving constituents within the greater St. Louis Community College district, the Board of Trustees, along with Trustee-Elect Hattie Jackson, is pleased to announce the selection of Myrtle E.B. Dorsey, Ph.D., as the next chancellor of St. Louis Community College, effective June 16, 2011.

STLCC is fortunate to have attracted an educational leader of Dr. Dorsey's stature. She comes to us with an abundance of senior administrative level experience, having served as chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College for the past nine years. While Dr. Dorsey played a key role in establishing numerous programs at the newly formed State of Louisiana system, she has not forgotten that students are at the center of all we do at the community college.

Indeed, Trustee Libby Fitzgerald commented, "Her background in student affairs indicates she will be student-centered, which is a great quality for our next CEO." Trustee Joann Ordinachev echoed that by saying, "I am very excited about our current student initiatives, and I believe Dr. Dorsey will continue them and even improve them."

"The Board considered three highly qualified finalists," noted Trustee Margo McNeil, "which made our job of selecting the best candidate very difficult." Trustee Craig Larson said, "The choice of Dr. Dorsey became clear to me when I realized her style was to build capacity using teams, and her expertise showed an ability to relate us to the community."

The Board of Trustees expresses its gratitude to Board Vice Chair Melissa Hattman who served as the Search Committee chair. Ms. Hattman wishes to again thank all of the members of the Search Committee "for their incredible contribution to the search process." Trustee-Elect Hattie Jackson appreciated being brought into the selection process and was delighted with the choice because "Dr. Dorsey understands what matters."
