Programs

The Emerson Center focuses on curricula and training in design for manufacturing/assembly, manufacturing management, manufacturing materials, lean manufacturing, rapid product realization, CAD/CAM, product process development, programmable controllers, assembly and automation, CNC machining, electronics and telecommunications technology, product quality control and technology education.

The center also offers short-term courses and seminars for special skills and job upgrade.  More than 500 industry personnel have attended technical workshops and short-term training programs on computer-aided drafting and design, solid modeling, product design and manufacturing, quality systems, inventory control and lean manufacturing, process control and other technologies related to manufacturing systems and management.

The center partners with secondary schools and universities to provide seamless, non-duplicated educational programs from high school through baccalaureate programs, including

  • Engineering Science transfer degree program
  • Associate degree and 2+2 program in Technology Education with Southeast Missouri State University
  • Associate degree and 2+2 program in Industrial Technology with Southeast Missouri State Unversity
  • Tech Prep articulations with St. Louis City and County public high schools

The center has developed several educational partnerships with local businesses, governmental and community organizations, and small businesses:

  • Facilities partnership with Boeing Co. for a sheet metal assembly and riveter training program
  • Telecommunications courses and special workshops for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.
  • Composite materials workships and courses with leMay Center for Composites Technology
  • Other courses and workshops for employees at Emerson Electric Co., Hydromat, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Contico Plastics, the Society for Plastics Engineers and others
