Applying for Aid

Apply for PIN Number

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online application you should first apply for a PIN number. If you are a dependent student, your parent(s) also may apply for a PIN number.

With your PIN numbers, you and your parent(s) can electronically sign the FAFSA or make corrections to your processed financial aid information.

The PIN simplifies the application process and allows you to get your results faster. You can apply for your PIN number online by accessing http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp OR by accessing the PIN link through www.fafsa.ed.gov.

How to Apply For Financial Aid

  1. Obtain the FAFSA from the Financial Aid office after January 1 for the upcoming academic year. If you complete the paper FAFSA, the application must be mailed to the processing center in the envelope provided with the FAFSA. Within 4-6 weeks from the date that the paper FAFSA is mailed, a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be mailed to the address provided on the FAFSA application. The student should keep the SAR and contact the Financial Aid office for advice in proceeding to the next step.
  2. Apply for admission to the college. Applying for admission to the college and applying for financial aid may be done simultaneously. If you are applying for federal and/or state financial aid, you must have "Regular Status" and be enrolled in an eligible certificate or degree-seeking program of study with the college before your financial aid will be processed.
  3. Request academic transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended. If you have attended another postsecondary institution, you must request an academic transcript from each institution attended. Academic transcripts should be sent to the Admissions office. You must complete and submit an academic transcript evaluation request obtained from the Admission's office, for your transcript(s) to be evaluated. Transcripts must be evaluated before your financial aid will be processed.
  4. Submit your Academic Audit and Coded registration forms to the Financial Aid office as soon as possible. Students should check with the Financial Aid office at the campus they plan to attend for advice in proceeding with this process.
  5. Follow up with the Financial Aid office by the beginning of April regarding your financial aid eligibility and award for the upcoming academic year. Financial aid packaging that includes Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) and Federal Work-Study (FWS) jobs normally begins in April. FSEOG and FWS funds are limited.
  6. Contact the Financial Aid office regarding financial aid eligibility for the summer. To receive a Pell Grant for the summer, students must have remaining Pell Grant eligibility for the current academic year. Whether you are new to the college or a returning or continuing student, contact the Financial Aid office regarding summer eligibility.
