Academic ADVISING

Advisors are available to assist students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Advisors can offer realistic suggestions for improving academic performance. Students who are on probation will be advised to meet with counselors.

Career Information Advising

Advisors assist students in clarifying career goals that are consistent with their educational plans and discuss the academic requirements of the more than 90 career programs and certificates that are available through STLCC.

Course Selection

Advisors provide advice on the proper sequencing of academic courses, as well as offer insight to unique academic offerings such as supplemental instruction, linked course sections, personal development courses and distance learning options.

Degree Requirements

Advisors provide students with information regarding the specific degree and general education requirements of more than 100 academic majors offered through St. Louis Community College.

Graduation Checks

Advisors are available to evaluate students’ academic course histories to determine whether or not they are eligible to graduate. See Preparing for Graduation for more information.

Student Referrals

Advisors make referrals for students to a variety of the college’s support services (e.g. tutoring, personal counseling, career counseling, health services, the Access office, and others).

Transfer Advising

The Advising department maintains transfer guides to many four-year institutions in Missouri and Illinois. These documents provide up-to-date information regarding the transferability of St. Louis Community College’s courses and academic programs.
