Welcome from the Chancellor

On behalf of the Trustees, faculty, staff and students I welcome you to St. Louis Community College!  I am both honored and excited to serve the St. Louis Region, and to be a part of a time honored educational institution that has great tradition in providing educational opportunities that lead to the success and prosperity of our students and graduates.

You will discover that we offer a very wide variety of programs that prepare you for the workforce and/or further higher education.  To date, the College has over 1.2 million alum that have benefited in a wide variety of ways since meeting their educational objective at St. Louis Community College.  No matter where I go in the community, I continue to meet highly successful individuals who have either taken classes or graduated from the College.

St. Louis Community College offers an incredible value to students at a very low cost.  At an in district rate of approximately $100 per credit hour, you will be amazed how far your dollar will go in providing you with the skills and education needed in today’s complex and demanding workforce.  As you will discover, we have comprehensive financial aid packages and scholarships, and, for those students qualifying for Missouri’s A+ Program, this generous scholarship provides eligible individuals with a path to an associate’s degree for very little out of pocket cost to the student.  Many of our students graduate with very little or no college debt given the great financial aid and low tuition opportunities that exist.

At this time, the College is undergoing a comprehensive strategic planning process to ensure that programming and services provide students with clear pathways to a degree or certificate.  Anticipated to be completed in August 2016, the plan will be built around major themes of the following:

  • Pathways that provide a clear direction to an associate degree or other meaningful credential
  • Affordable and high quality educational programs that provide a great value and accessibility and equity for all individuals, including minority and low income families
  • Assurance of learning outcomes relevant to the workforce and/or further higher education
  • Employment in well-paying jobs upon the completion of the student’s educational objectives

I invite you to meet with a College counselor or advisor in the very near future to learn about the College, and to begin your journey toward a highly rewarding educational experience and career.  I look forward to meeting you on one of our campuses, and wish you much success in fulfilling your educational and career objectives!

Sincerely,

Jeff L. Pittman, Chancellor
