NCA HLC Self-Study

Just as the streetscape of downtown St. Louis has changed over the past couple of years with the building of the new Busch Stadium, St. Louis Community College is experiencing a transformation of its own. This is an exciting time for the district as we focus on on the future, and embark on a journey of continuous improvement with the self-study process as a guide.

STLCC underwent an accreditation evaluation Jan. 28-30, 2008, with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The purpose of this evaluation is to advance the quality of student learning. Certainly, that purpose is something we all should be engaged in every day.

We are pleased to report that the visiting team agreed that St. Louis Community College offers an environment where institutional quality and student learning are evident, and therefore will recommend that STLCC be granted continued accreditation, with the next visit taking place in 2018.

The accreditation self-study process was designed as an opportunity for us to take an objective look at ourselves. It gave us an opportunity to individually and collectively define and discover, develop and demonstrate, and rejuvenate our zest for the teaching and learning process.

The strengths and challenges identified in the HLC review will serve as a guide for strategic planning as move the college into the future. we would like to encourage all of you to share your knowledge to help move STLCC into the future and fulfill our mission:

St. Louis Community College expands minds and changes lives every day. We create accessible, dynamic learning environments focused on the needs of our diverse communities.
